About the book

Short

Following the Signs is the true story of a girl becoming a woman while learning how to free herself — from small-village poverty in Latvia, through a marriage that tried to break her, into the long, unglamorous work of rebuilding alone in a country where she knew no one and had nothing. Underneath all of it runs a single thread: the signs she kept receiving, and kept talking herself out of.

Intuition is not a mystical gift reserved for a lucky few. It is a voice everyone has, and trusting it is a muscle.

Following the Signs is the true story of a girl becoming a woman while learning how to free herself.

It follows Juta from small-village poverty in Latvia, through a marriage that tried to break her, through the betrayal, and into the long, unglamorous work of rebuilding alone in a country where she knew no one and had nothing. Running underneath all of it is a single thread: the signs she kept receiving, and kept talking herself out of.

The heart of this book is simple. Intuition is not a mystical gift reserved for a lucky few. It is a voice everyone has — and learning to trust it is a muscle, strengthened by listening, and then by following.

It is written for anyone searching, anyone rebuilding, and anyone who suspects they already know what their life is trying to tell them. It arrives at a moment when more people than ever feel lost, and are being told to be reasonable, stay small, and wait for something good to come along.

Life is meant to be lived. And now is always the best time to start following the signs.

About the author

Short

Juta Heniņa grew up in a small village of about a thousand people in Latvia. She left home at sixteen, eventually crossing an ocean and rebuilding her life from nothing in the United States. For most of those years she ignored the quiet voice in her chest that kept telling her which way to go — until ignoring it nearly cost her everything. She wrote Following the Signs because, in her words, silence almost killed her. Today she is the founder of Align the Signs, where she helps others learn to hear and trust the voice inside of them.

First-Time Author Juta Heniņa Debuts Following the Signs, a Memoir About Intuition, Survival, and Choosing Yourself

Align the Signs announces the release of Following the Signs: How Listening to My Inner Voice Is Leading Me to the Life I Am Meant to Live, the debut memoir by Latvian-American author Juta Heniņa.

Juta grew up in a small village of about a thousand people in Latvia, left home at sixteen, and crossed an ocean into a marriage that ended in betrayal. What followed was years of isolation, self-destructive behavior, and depression. Running quietly beneath it all was a series of signs she repeatedly talked herself out of following. Following the Signs is the account of that journey, and of finally deciding to listen to the inner voice that had always been there.

The memoir arrives at a moment when many people are feeling lost and alone. Juta's central theme is that intuition is not mystical or rare — it is a common human signal most people are taught to ignore, and learning to trust it is a skill that can be developed by listening, and then by doing.

“I didn't set out to write a book. I set out to survive,” says Heniņa. “I wrote this because silence almost killed me. The signs were always there — I just had to stop explaining them away.”

Following the Signs is a 258-page paperback, priced at $24.99, and will be released on November 23, 2026. Juta Heniņa is available for interviews, podcasts, panels, book clubs, and events.
